Muted elegance was the look at Chanel for Spring 2011 Haute Couture.  Karl send confections in black, white, gray, pink, lavender and blue down the runway.  The look is proper–what a young lady coming out in society in the 50s would wear–with some modern looks thrown in (i.e. the skinny pants with the signature jacket).  Great collection.

This is the collection fashion dreams are made of.  The collection was pure poetry in motion: the old Dior “new look” is fresh again.  The silhouettes hearken back to the 1950s glamorous era and every detail is pitch perfect from the hair to the red lip-stain to the gloves to the head pieces.  Fabuleux Monsieur Galliano.

Haute Couture Spring 2011: Alexis Mabille

Alexis Mabille presents his collection on the first day of the Haute Couture Spring 2011 collections.  The look is simple, 50s retro-chic.  The first look in navy (or is it black?) is my favorite look: it’s what a tuxedo jacket would look like if it dared to be a gown.  Love the bow detail as well.

Haute Spot: Baronesse Helle

Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott (source: MSN)

The first Haute Spot nod of 2011 goes to Danish aristocrat Baroness Helle Reedtz-Thott.  She caught my eye in this casual glam look of jeans, black turtleneck, boots, and a fur thrown in for good measure.  You guys know I’m mad about fur this season.  Where was the Baroness going you might ask?  She was visiting Crown Princess Mary of Denmark in the hospital who just gave birth to twins.

US Vogue January 2011: Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman for US Vogue shot by Peter Lindbergh.

2011 is sure to be Natalie Portman’s year as heralded by landing the January 2011 cover of Vogue Magazine.  (And what a stunning cover by the way!)  The dark beauty, who thrilled and disturbed audiences in Black Swan is a sure bet to win a Golden Globe if not an Oscar for her performance.  2011 will also be the year she will marry her beau, New York City Ballet dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, and become a mom.

I’ve been a fan of Natalie’s since her film Anywhere But Here with Susan Sarandon.  I was that angst ridden teenager feeling so different from her family.  I loved her grit in V for Vendetta, her histrionic acting in Paris Je T’aime and her overall Audrey Hepburn-esque style.  (Portman even donned Hepburn’s iconic  Givenchy dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s on the cover of Glamour–I still have that magazine.)  Here’s to a smashing year Natalie.  Can’t wait to see what heights you achieve!
